A Little More About Lisa Ayres - Your Wholistic Therapist
Natural health is my passion! I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, a Holistic Aromatherapist, and a Reiki Master-Teacher and have been working with health food stores and supplements since 2000. I graduated from the well known and respected Canadian School of Natural Nutrition with honours in 2010.
My experience as a Registered Aromatherapist, Reiki Master-Teacher, and Intuitive Healer make me a very well rounded holistic therapist, but it’s my personal experience that sets me apart from other therapists. I've personally dealt naturally with inflammatory and autoimmune conditions and I've watched autoimmune conditions in my own family as well. I suffered from fibromyalgia in the past (I've healed my FM through diet and lifestyle - and so can you!) and I work around multiple allergies. I also have an extensive family history of autoimmune disease including diabetes, several cancers, MS, arthritises, allergies, anxiety, depression, Alzheimer's, cardiovascular concerns and PMS! So - you could say I've nearly heard it all!
I love researching your conditions and cross referencing your medication, supplements, and conditions to ensure that you are getting the optimum value out of all your therapies. If this sounds like you - if you've tried it all and still don't feel better - I'm the therapist for you!

The Deeper Story - it's why I love to help!

Well, it all began at a packaging company when I was 20 years old. They wanted me to join the accounting department – and offered me free schooling. Now … anyone who knows me knows that that was NOT for me – but I was young and it was free school and guaranteed employment with a great company for years – who would say no?
So … I started looking for classes. I couldn't find anything that worked for me and my family, BUT I did find an aromatherapy course that worked perfectly for me (and my family) and it actually interested me – I figured 'forget about it – I'm doing something purely for me, just for fun, and - hey - maybe I can become a weekend crafter or something.' Little did I know!
Turns out I really loved it. But I still thought of it as just for fun.
At that time I had a really bad back – I'd already been in two fender benders (neither my fault! – both rear-enders) but they were supposed to be miner things – no injuries. Yet, there were times when I could barely move – and I was only 20! One day my back was so bad I was doubled over my desk, unable to get up. My teacher, Brenda Blindenbach, blended an essential oil synergy right in her hand, and rubbed it on my back. Since that day my back has been better! I use essential oils daily, and not even necessarily on my back, and I feel awesome!
It was at that moment that I realized that something more HAD to be done with aromatherapy. That I had to be more than just a hobby crafter – I became a Therapist that day.
As soon as I finished school I quit my day job and entered a business building program. I opened shop one year later.
I also joined the BCAPA and the BCAOA, spending time on both boards working towards the recognition of Aromatherapy as a profession and helping the organization obtain occupational title protection and designation under the Society Act of British Columbia in March of 2003. This was the first time that any organization had received a government issued designation for Aromatherapy anywhere in North America. I became one of the first 100 Registered Aromatherapists in North America.
Soon after that I took a reiki course out of per curiosity. Unbeknownst to me, this was the beginning of another chapter in my life. At first, however, I was unimpressed with reiki. It felt like nothing was new – "I do this all the time naturally anyway" I thought. It took me another year before I looked at reiki again. At that point I took reiki level 2 simply because I needed continuing education credits. I was also gifted a weekend self-help course that I knew very little about for the following weekend. Anyone who's taken my reiki courses knows that you shouldn't take a spiritual step without knowing what you are doing and without being ready to do it. But I needed to learn that lesson myself so that I can tell this story to my students!
Needless to say – I had a violent reaction to the cleansing processes initiated at during these two classes. During my cleansing process I discovered some food sensitivities I wasn't aware of before and began a long journey towards great self awareness and understanding, deeper spiritual wealth and connection, and stronger commitment to helping my clients (and the world) heal holistically.
Shortly after that (on my birthday) I discovered that my husband and I would be having another baby!
Unfortunately, I had a pretty intense pregnancy that had me on bed rest by the end of the first trimester. During my pregnancy I spent a lot of time learning about myself and my diet leading to a better understanding of what my body can handle, while remaining healthy and functional. I spent this down time connecting more fully with my own spirituality and then decided to take my Reiki Master-Teacher training. I wasn't doing much else laying around on the couch! So one year after my level 2 training (almost to the day) I was gifted with my level 3 attunement. I became a teacher of reiki and my baby was attuned to the Master level as well since I was attuned while still pregnant with her.
Shortly there after I was hospitalized and our baby was brought into this world a little earlier than expected – but healthy and strong! Or so we thought. My difficult pregnancy was a prelude to a difficult infancy for my daughter. She was a very unhappy baby yet all the doctors said she was fine.
One day I noticed a rash all over my daughter's body. The doctors sloughed it off as unimportant, but I knew the human body doesn't just get a rash for no reason – so I began to research rashes in infancy. The most logical answer was food sensitivities. So I began experimenting myself. We discovered that the same foods I was sensitive to while pregnant – my daughter was allergic to now. By avoiding those foods myself (since we were still exclusively breastfeeding at the time), we were able to prevent the rashes – and she became a much happier child.
We went from being trapped in our own home with a miserable child to having a happy, outgoing, energetic, social daughter. It was night and day. People couldn't believe it. In fact – to this day people still comment on it. Our daughter was happier and healthier – but she was still reacting to things: she had eczema, upset stomach, mood swings, sleep apnea, rashes, runny nose, nightmares, bedwetting – you name it!
We took her to allergists and doctors and they were only able to tell us that she was allergic, but not what to do about it, or how to handle it. Then she started reacting to all kinds of things with apparently no rhyme or reason to her reactions. But I am an observant mom – and we were able to keep her away from what she was reacting to. At least for a while.
During this time I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I hadn't recovered from the pregnancy and was still experiencing a lot of pain, exhaustion, frustration, and digestive concerns. The pregnancy was, in the end, considered a 9 month flare up and the beginning of my fibromyalgia experience. I was told to keep my body moving and tough it out – there's no cure, and no one really understands what causes Fibromyalgia.
Yet I recognized that if I remained off the milk and wheat (my daughter's original allergens) I felt better too. Hmmmm ...
This got me thinking … I should learn about nutrition! So I went back to school when my daughter was 2. She still had a lot of problems – and so did I, but it was manageable enough that my daughter could go to daycare for a few hours a day, and I could get myself to school to learn how to help us. And I learned so much at school that I was able to take home and use to help my whole family.
Now – my daughter is 7. She has gone from being on such a strict diet that we made everything from scratch and didn't ever eat out, to being able to enjoy her friend's birthday parties AND eat birthday cake too! She is basically cured of ALL her ailments (rashes, colic, digestive problems, heart burn, mood swings, runny nose, swollen adenoid, sleep apnea, food sensitivities, allergies – the list goes on and on) – and so am I.
Through diet, aromatherapy, and spiritual work I have cured all the symptoms of fibromyalgia: depression/anxiety, constant pain, IBS, migraines, painful PMS, digestive concerns, and more!
And the thing is – I'm seeing the same results with my clients, friends and family. I love it and I love sharing it!
So that's the short version of my story LOL!
I'd love to work with you and hear your story – give me a call!
